1978 OTI Quantum 4

.............So a guy out of the blue calls me about a week and a half ago. He says he still has a scope that I had inquired about about 2 months ago and wanted to know if I was still interested. We discuss price, condition, he sends additional photos, we agree on price and it arrived today. I must say it has been all I can do to contain myself this week over this "little gem" until it arrived. The seller did a fabulous job packing the scope. Well marked and double boxed and quite a bit of "insurance". Also shown is a binder with documentation.

Corrector and primary are in excellent condition. Only some light dust on the corrector.

I originally had thought that the eyepiece in the photos the seller sent was a Brandon. But what came was an unfamiliar eyepiece. "Brower" .33 ortho. It looks prety old. Could this be from Stan Brower who worked with/at Mogey?? A quick search yielded very little information. Any ideas?

Only came with two legs but at least I got the slider one for latitude adjustment. The missing leg should be easy to replicate. Anyone got an extra squirreled away? Also missing the bracket that the back two fixed legs screw into.

The finder eyepiece was also missing but the extra 6x one from my recent SPI 60mm f/20 worked perfectly.

The blue OTA color is really beautiful. I read that it is possibley a Ford color but it sure reminds me of the metallic blue of my '86 Z28 I once had.

The scope came with some great documentation and correspondence between OTI and the original owner. Original order.

I haven't seen one of those "in the field" in years, Scott -superb instruments, indeed. What a truly beautiful piece of machining and optical fabrication they were - and are!

Thanks Amicus, much like the scope in your avatar. I drooled over those Edmund ads as a kid. Those mounts are a work of mechanical art!!

Original order form and prices. Note the order #55 in the upper right corner. Is this #55 4" produced or total orders?? I believe they started production in 1977 and were gone by 1982.
