"Park scope" and "Park position" new
      #5338001 - 07/27/12 08:34 AM

Normally I just shut down my telescope (LX200 GPS) and start up again next time with a "skip alignment and sync on a star", but it might be easier just to park the scope and continue where I left.

The autostar has a choice between "Park Scope" in the utilities menu and "Park Position" in the Setup menu.

They seem to do the same, which one is better?

The telescope is permanently eq-mounted in my observatory.

"Park Position" is where you set the scope position, pointing to a specific spot.
i.e. my scope is with the left fork up at the 11:00 clock position (GPS on top)

"Park Scope" is the instruction to GoTo the predetermined "Park Position" befor shutting down.

NO alignment is required when restarting just "GoTo" a known star and "Sync".

Yeah. The default Park Position is with the scope pointing at Polaris; very inconvenient for me, so I set one that gave the scope the lowest possible profile (so the piggyback refractor doesn't get scraped off by the roof!)

"Park" is definitely where it's at for a permanent setup like yours. The manual has instructions on how to set your own park position.

Yep, same here. Under 'Park Position' in Setup there should be a couple choices among them 'Use Current'. You just put the scope in the position you want it to park at and hit 'Use Current'. After that it will always go-to that position when you select 'Park Scope' in the Utilities menu.

When I park my LX200 mounted on a wedge it parks with the
forks pointed at Polaris not the scope is this normal as it
seems at odds with other posts ?

Not sure what you mean. On a wedge the forks are always pointed at Polaris, parked or not. If you're asking 'why isn't the scope pointed at Polaris' when you park I can only guess that at some point someone changed the park position from default. (If default is to point at Polaris as someone said.)

I roll my scope out to observe...I will set park to be level so I can roll through door without hitting...my question is with no pier...if I mark scope position and start up at same location and position each and every time will that be good nuff to synk to a star without the full startup??????

If you roll it out to the exact same spot and orientation, you would probably be fine for viewing, but for photography you would not be exact enough unless you were extremely lucky. Personally I don't mind the full alignment procedure as I setup during daylight and align when the first stars just start coming out, I am still ready to go before the sky gets dark enough for good viewing. If I am going to do photography I set up and spend the first night getting happy with the wedge alignment and then cover the scope up when I shut down, the second night I know it is ready to go.

Thanks for the info....most nights I could go through full alignment...but sometimes I just like to grab a quick look..was hoping it would be OK to do it like that..for now I intend to wheel it out...down the road I may have to put it on a pier, maybe with a roll off dog house...tnks again

If you have a favorite spot, put some bricks in the ground under the tripod feet; get the thing aligned perfectly; then score the bricks (chunking little pits for the tripod feet is good), so you can put it in exactly the same position next time.
I did this on a little triangular cement pad I laid at the end of the sidewalk I poured to roll my 8" Newt out of its shed. The wheels plop into their little pits, and I'm aligned very well for visual observing. Works great.

That's what I'll be doing, only on my new deck.....I have 3 pieces of stainless with recesses in them just big enough for the level screws on my scopebuggy...should place it dead on every time.

A rich new meaning to the expression "Observation Deck".
