Printing Office. $40 delivered. If you wait until the end of the year, they'll be out of them. I buy one every year. I don't use it very often; but I love having the information handy when I do need it. The new hardcover edition of "Explanatory Supplement To The Astronomical Almanac". Always wanted to buy one of these but wasn't sure if it would be helpful to an amateur astronomer without much mathematical background. I'm not familiar with the "Supplement". I've always used the Almanac just for accurate positions of objects, mostly planets. What's in the Supplement that makes it valuable to the math-literate? The supplement explains the algorithms that are used to derive the data in the Almanac -- for instance, the brightnesses of the planets, which are inevitably estimates at best. That's useful if you're interested in algorithms and/or want to understand the limitations of the data in the Almanac. I often don't think to order a copy until the end of the year, and in 2011 I ran into the sold out scenario you mention and had to wait 2 months into the new year before getting it. I find these to be an indispensable reference when preparing our monthly newsletter. I am also waiting for the "Explanatory Supplement To The Astronomical Almanac" but that is a long wait. I was going through the tables and I find that dates given for all the planets, also includes December 32nd. Are we going to have 32 days in the month of December in 2013? Are there any changes to the calender in offing? Not much, probably. It's much more detailed than the RASC Handbook, but you probably don't need or care about that level of detail. And a good planetarium program like Sky Safari Plus can generate much if not most of the data in the AA. Those of us who write planetarium programs need the AA to check their accuracy!
