Out this morning and trying out my new imager. Was doing some DSLR work with reducer on cpc1100 and just left it on because I wanted to image the moon also. So this is with the focal reducer in line and about 750 images stacked in registax6. This is part of first light for the neximage 5. From what I see after getting used to it and going straight this thing might get some details out of the planet.

Nice color fix rg55, guess so low in the sky kind of makes it get a little off color.
Yeah Clayton, seeing how that turned out makes me want to get out there a lot more to see what I can get out of this thing. Still surprised at how much it showed with the sct focal reducer installed. One thing for sure though is I have to use the reducer if I am going to image the moon. I might have to get one of those reducers designed for the old neximage and see if that gets me a wider shot on the moon.

Ralph,
What I've been learning with mine is that it imparts a green tint to everything in certain video formats. It's a bit annoying. It's been difficult to find information on how to use the camera, outside of the help files in the iCap software. I think we'll need to look to imaging forums that have a lot of users of Imaging Source cameras--you know, the DMK/DFK/DBK etc series--to get more information. Celestron could have done a much better job with documentation--the help files are minimal at best.

Richard, I think I recall seeing a screen where you can preset the color channels when I was looking through some of them the other morning. I couldn't get out last night, had overcast and then this morning when I got up at 4:00 am just in case it was raining very lightly with winds howling. Next time I get a chance to use it will check out some different times and see if that makes any difference. I think I recall seeing somewhere where most sensors have more green receptors than red or blue. So we might have to turn the green channel down on that screen and see how that works out. Have you gotten many captures of Jupiter yet? Last fall/winter I got a bunch with the older neximage using my 10 inch dob with two 2x barlows giving me the best results. It seems this one acts more like a 2.5mm ep where the other one acted like a 5mm ep. I sure don't remember the other one haveing such a closeup view of the moon.

Here's a shot of Jupiter I got with the Neximage 5 through an Orion 5" maksutov. It's the best I've done so far...

In iCap select "Properties..." from the Device drop down menu. A tabbed window will appear. On the Color tab there is a check box for "Color Enhancement" which is titled "Enable." I got rid of the green by unchecking the Enable box. Also on that window are sliders to control red, green, and blue individually.

rg55, that isn't too bad. Your focus might be off just a bit. I found when getting started with my old imager the hardest part is getting a good focus. What I do whenever possible is crank up my gain or change shutter time to get the moons of Jupiter to show up and then use that to get the best focus by making the moon the smallest I can. Then I go back and change gain or shutter time to get the exposure I want for the planet itself.
Yeah that is where I saw it, thanks for the tip Mr. Warm.

I use a Bahtinov mask for perfect focus (nothing works better). After focusing the camera on a star you then have to find the planet with the extremely small field of view that you get with the NexImage 5.
I use my C8 for imaging and a C5 for a guide scope. I don't do autoguiding for planets so I instead use the C5 as a high power finderscope. To do this I use an eyepiece with cross hair reticles on the C5. Then I am at the mercy of the periodic error which isn't too bad with the CGEM.

I did last season with my C8 and then with my 10 inch reflector on my CG5 for getting images of jupiter. Most of the time I would just do a quick align and not even worry about getting a really precise polar alignment since the tracking doesn't have to be that tight when using high shutter rates. I would just do any minor corrections to center target prior to each capture. That big findner is a good idea, that was the biggest problem I had last season. With my new scope I have a much better finder also which makes it so much easier to get and keep on target.
