Hi all! I recently purchased a Meade 10" SCT f/6.3 on an LXD 55 mount but am looking for a mount better suited for this heavy scope. I saw an ad on astromart for an LX200 mount from an 8" SCT, and was wondering if anyone knows whether or not the 10" would fit in it. I have been looking for an LX200/LX90 mount for quite a while, but they are scarce unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think the Meade fork mounts are sold separately -- not sure a bare 10 inch OTA would mount on one anyway, even if you could fine one used and then I would be hesitant about the electronics, since the main reason people defork these scopes is if the mount fails. In your position I would get a GEM and the appropriate mounting dovetail and got to town with it. Probably an Atlas or Celestron CGEM DX at minimum.

The Atlas should have no problems with a 10" SCT. I use an 8" SCT on my Atlas and it is waayyy over mounted (which is okay by me).

I think a fork mount from an 8" SCT would have to be modified to fit a 10". I don't know exactly how, but it could be either spacers or different forks.
You might find somebody who knows for sure on the LX (equipment specific) forum.

Different forks (both wider and longer). Either 10" or 12" LX200 forks would work, as those are the same length and only spacers are added on the 12" version. You could probably find a 10" LX50 mount for less - that uses the same forks so it's just as beefy but no goto capabilities.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I got a good deal on the SCT OTA/LXD 55 combo, and wasn't too familiar with the mount's payload. Looking back, I should have just purchased an LX200 fork mounted from the factory, but the bargain shopper in me couldn't pass it up. I really appreciate all the info; I am definitely able narrow down my options with the newfound knowledge. I think I am just going to get a CG 5 ASGT for now, although I am aware it is probably not enough for my hefty 10" Meade. Maybe I'll invest in a CGEM in the future, or maybe trade down to an fork-mounted 8. Anyhow, thanks for all the great info guys!
