Hi to all,
The sun put on a big show on July 19th. A large proeminence was there to say goodbye to the active region 1520. Although through my LS60 details were difficult to sort out, I was able to do a quick sketch with pastels on black paper. I have to confess that I also used some of the incredible images from the solar expert on CN. Have a look at this:

Nice use of colors! I guess you can't see the colors like this at the EP?

thanks guys for your comments.
Jef, no they are not all the real colors. This is the «artistic» part: I try to render different luminosity and density by using a bit of yellow and white. The blue is an idea of my loving wife...

Jean,
Very nice rendering of this giant prominence. This type of prom is called a post-flare loop--Active Region 1520 had produced a strong flare and coronal mass ejection (CME) early on July 19th. The loop shows the magnetic field lines carrying gazillions of tons of solar plasma trying to reconnect. Nice capture!

Lovely example of the marriage of art and scientific recording that is astronomical drawing. Keep up the good work!

Jean, fantastic sketch! What a wonderful way to use a different media. I too very much like the use of the blue - adds a deffinate element of movement, dynamism, heat and energy.
The animation in that link you provided is astounding!
