This is a three frame mosaic taken through a PST with 3x Barlow and Flea3. Imaged the morning of July 26.
Sketching's Finalist - Roel:

Hereby I would like to submit my sketch of M24 I made this week.
A few nights ago I went on a trip to my favourite observing site 20 miles from my home. Because of the warm summer evening temperatures I did not travel by car but tied everything onto my little 1971 Honda moped and drove off to Lochem, The Netherlands. In my backpack I carried a very cheap 70mm refractor that I can use on my photo tripod.
M24 doesn't rise very high at my lattitute (52N), but was well visible in the tiny refractor at 16x. A very nice widefield view.
I sketched the brightest stars with a black pen and used a sharp 2H graphite pencil for the "mist" of unresolved stars.
In the north-northeast corner of the sketch M18 is visible as a tiny open cluster.
Good Luck to all our finalists!

A great but narrow win for Jeff - almost a tie. Jeff - are you going to move out of the beginners forum now?

The rules say that Jeff has "graduated" from Beginning imaging with this win:
Quote:
2. In order to provide a level playing field and to encourage participation by novice imagers, entrants in the Beginning Imaging forum who win the semi-finals poll in the CN Imaging Contest a total of three (3) times - or who win in the finals regardless of the number of times they have won the semifinals - will have demonstrated sufficient proficiency at astrophotography to no longer be considered a "beginning imager". Such an imager will be considered to be a "graduate" of the Beginning Imaging Forum, and are encouraged to compete in the other imaging or sketching forums. The exception to this rule will be in the case of an entrant who wins the semi finals poll in Beginning Imaging as an uncontested entrant. An uncontested winner in the semi-finals will not have their win count toward their "graduation" as a beginning imager unless they also win the overall contest.
Congratulations, Jeff!

Thanks! If my memory serves me, I was in the finals once last year, and came in second by a similarly-close margin. It's never bad to finish well with all these great entries and votes that could go a lot of ways. It is gratifying, though, to see that I appear to be getting better at this stuff with the help of everyone. This whole group of imaging forums really deserve the credit!
Actually, I should point out that the forum is actually the Beginning and Intermediate Imaging forum! There are a lot of nice folks who frequent there, so although I won't be entering anything from there any more, I'll certainly be "hanging out" around that neck of the woods!

I'd also like to point out that Igor did his image on FILM. Frankly, if any "difficulty points" were awarded, that would easily break any "ties" in my mind!
