cygnus with pentax astrotracer on tripod new
      #5378102 - 08/20/12 06:02 PM Attachment (12 downloads)

I have experiemented - yes, that's the right word, with the pentax astrotracer. I have learned that you must ignore the suggested times given by the software and use much shorter times - and will still likely get some blurring - but you can snap some useful shots. This is my most recent, from mt. Pinos near los angeles this last weekend. As i was putting away my telescope, and removing a 2" celestron o3 filter from an eyepiece - I decided to lay it against the lens of my pentax and try to catch the veil. A quick try showed me i needed more photons, so i cranked up the iso to the top: 12,800 and shot 6 frames at 105 seconds each. Later combined and massaged a bit for contrast, etc., and a bit of noise reduction.

The veil really shows up well with the o3 filter. Usually this whole area is filled with H-alpha.

Not bad. I had a O-GPS1 for a while for my K-5 and for what it was it worked pretty well. Although I found that its best suited for widefield stuff and with me living in a red zone I couldn't get much use out of it. I did take a some shots of M51 @300mm and a few other things that are posted on this forum somewhere.
