I cleaned up an older vixen alt-az and regreased. Now there is quite a bit of lost motion that wasn't there with the old sticky gooey stuff that came in it. I liked the "feel" of the flex knobs better before I cleaned and regreased. What or where can I get something that replicates the sticky thick OEM product that everyone complains about so much?

You might try some heavier wheel bearing grease from your local auto parts store. I know what your talking about, sometimes the thinner grease is too thin!

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the grease Synta is using basically a silicone grease? I found some of that at my local Ace; it's clear and has almost the exact consistency of Synta's grease, thick and sticky.

Hi Mike,
there are products known as damping greases that provide the smooth "feel" on many optical assemblies. Nye lubricants makes them. You can also search "damping grease" on Whee-bay for a cheap item - don't know about it's pedigree though.
Best Regards,
Bob

If you get it from Nye it will cost. The alternative I mentioned is $4. It may be actual weasel grease.
