I'm not used to sketch naked eye (with all the light pollution at my home), but tried this one on a dark holiday place in France. I sketch the house of the king for the nebulocity at the south of Cepheus (named Star 11 or Cepheus OB2 Association). In fact it is a side-branch of the Milkyway (I sketched just a part at the east of the pentagon). The weakest star I could see was mag 5.6 (I expected more with a SQM 21.2). Most stars looked a little bit "fuzzy". Two stars (at the south) had an orange color. The original sketch is almost A4, pencil on white paper, color was added digital. All comments are welcome, I know there still could be some improvement.

Hi Jeff,
what improvement do you need? The rendering of the nebulosity looks pretty natural as it is.
Very nice sketch!

Those types of sketches are very difficult to do and you've done a wonderful job with it! My only comment would be to plot more stars if you can see them on the whole sketch, not just within Cepheus. But I guess that would just depend on if you wanted a true representation of that part of the sky or just to highlight Cepheus. Again, terrific sketch!

This is what we make far too less: Naked eye sketches. The sky is most beautful without any instrument between us and teh sky.

Great sketch, Jef!
Which reminds me that I want to do more naked eye as well. I find it very enjoyable, from a dark site of course.
Clear skies,
