Hi Jay,
I asked the question about laser collimating an SCT, have a read of this thread. I've never used a laser collimator since buying my SCT!

The Orion laser is not meant to be used with an SCT. There are only a couple such devices out there, but their actual usefulness remains to be proven. I tried the Kendrick version about a year ago, and found that I got better collimation using the star test and a set of Bob's Nobs.

I'm about half-done with my review of the Digitec Laser Collimator...it's pricey ($220), but it works. Although I haven't had seeing conditions over about a 4 since I collimated using it, several other seasoned viewers thought images were clear and sharp.
I still intend to do final adjustments using star collimation, but could detect no difference between the laser's results and checking with poor seeing. As far as I'm concerned, it's worth the money, as the forest I live in gives me NO skyview.

Jay,
Try a search on this subject and you should get a plethora of info.
Within the past 6 months.
I'm cant remember if it relates spcifically to the SCT but the principles will be the same as well as what to look for when buying and before you use it.
