Uranus and Neptune moon trackers
      #5393744 - 08/29/12 06:05 PM

Does anyone have recommendations for good Uranus and Neptune moon trackers / locations? I would love to see Triton and 1-2 of Uranus' brighter moons. I know stellarium has the Uranus moons listed, but wanted to confirm if others have found the locations to be accurate. And for some reason Triton isn't in stellarium. So, I would like to know when it is even visible for seeing and not hidden behind the planet. I also wouldn't want to mistake a faint star for Triton either.

Anyone have any tools or suggestions?

With a 10" scope shouldn't be difficult from 6v sky's . Anything over 250x is helpful here so even without prior knowledge of location it's not too tricky. Just pencil mark the PA and reference it later. For me that's all it takes.
Brian mentions a good program.

WinJupos is a great program for many things including the moons of Uranus, but for some reason does not have moon support for Neptune.

Try Sky and Tel's Triton tracker:

Project Pluto software Guide Version 8, now Guide V9 available, displays the moons of the planets, and Dwarf Planet Pluto.
Very useful software for the low cost.

I remember your posts with these from a year ago but was having trouble finding them. This is great!

I went to the PDS rings site and set one up for Triton as well.

If anyone is looking for a link to the site, here it is: http://pds-rings.seti.org/tools/

Sorry for not posting the link in my previous post. The date input can be a little tricky (format-wise) but other than that it's a nice little tool for the planet moon corkscrew graphs.

Here are my numerical predictions for the elongations around opposition.
