I have a 120mm refractor on my Lxd55 mount. I was using the 127mm telescope as my model. Would it be better to use the ETX 125mm? That give me the choice of using the Polar mount and the Alt/az. If I change the model, will I have to recalibrate the motors and do another train drive? What difference does it make as to which model you choose? Thanks. Jim

I don't have a LXD55 mount but I would have to say that the model selection would have to follow the mount the Autostar is connected not what OTA it is moving. Gear ratios, encoders, counts per degree, a configuration sort of thing. Brian

You definitely want to pick one of the LXD-55/75 models so the mount type and gear ratios are set up correctly.
The OTA part of the model selection only determines eyepiece recommendations and the spiral-search feature. It might also effect maximum elevation default numbers as well.

Having the correst telescope/mount selected( AR-5/LXD-55 ) in the Autostar will prompt Autostar to issue a warning if the object selected will cause the OTA to hit the mount, like Chris said.
