Jupiter 9\9\12
      #5411243 - 09/09/12 07:38 AM Attachment (39 downloads)

Observed and sketched Jupiter this morning. Could only manage 220x or so before image broke down so seeing wasn't great. Still a wealth of detail to see. Numerous banding and festoons. Moons were nice also.

After jupiter I observed m42 for the first time this fall. Always amazing.

Very nice sketch. You got considerably more detail out of your Dob than I got. Trying to decide now between a barlow or similar device, or a Hyperion 3.5mm EP to get me into the +200X realm.

I should stay up late and try to catch M42 myself.

Chris,

Your look at Jupiter was much better than mine. This certainly was worth sketching and a fine one it is.

Frank

Thanks, I observed it about an hour and a half. I still have not seen round spots in the pole areas like in photos. The most prominate feature this time was a large knot and some blues festoons in the center of the two belts. I also good detail in the northern eq belt. Double belt in southern region.
