Hi Tom,
Pleased you were able to spend time in "Uncle Tom's cabin" at last. You've certainly put the time to good use. Lovely capture Tom. There's plenty of detail to feast the eye's on and good contrast against the night sky.
Thanks for posting.
Regards Peter.

Hi Tom,
Lovely image as always !
This is my similar offering from Saturday night !
Now, do you or anyone else think there is someone asleep in NGC896 ?
(10 X 5 minute subs in Ha.).
Best regards, Tel

Hi Tel,
Another excellent image of NGC 896.Again, lots of detail and good contrast. I will have to make it a target for my UHC.
As for the "Sleeper" I'll take a stab at the large fainter part of the nebula to the far left of the main body of the image. I see the "makings" of a face in there. Failing that, you got me.
Thanks for posting.
Regards. Peter.

Lovely capture Tel, as i said in my email to you, i envy your skies down south, the transparancy(sp?) must have been better than i had, given the stronger data in the surrounding nebulosity that you caught at lesser exposure times than i had to use, nice job.
regards,
Tom.

Thanks Peter and Tel for your comments.
Another capture from the same night,i had a heck of a time processing this one due to sky transparency, slowly but surely robbing me of signal, i thought it was a total loss to be honest, but here`s what i did manage to get out of it.
IC410/NGC1893 the Tadpole nebula, 12 X 15 minute subs.
Imaging set up...
Skywatcher ED80 DS PRO refractor with 0.85 focal reducer,Atik 314E mono ccd. Baader 7nm Ha filter.
Guiding...
Skywatcher ST80 achro refractor,Meade DSI OSC mark 1 CCD.Hitecastro guider interface unit with PHD.
Once again thanks for looking.
Just to add... i noticed in my haste in processing my earlier image of NGC896, that i had failed to see my stars were far too sharp edged, this then is the same image adjusted to put that right.
regards,
Tom.

Again, looking good as always Tom, despite the assumption we get better weather down here further South. (?) I say assumption because that may be true, but this Summer I'm sure you'd agree, we've both had more than our fair share of....... ( well, let's just say, inaccurate weather forecasting) !
I have to admit that the quest for the "Tadpoles", initiated by Andy, (Mushroom Bill), has certainly excited me to make a future attempt, although I think I'll wait until Auriga rises a little earlier so that I can assure myself of staying the course !
As to the "Sleeper" in NGC896, "she's" perhaps easier to see if you rotate your image through 90 degrees, anticlockwise, and look towards that bright spot, (upper right when rotated).
Just below that is "her" closed eye (dark line) and above it "her" eyebrow ! The nose follows down from the closed eye to a pouting mouth at the interface between this nebulous region and the one below it. (Call it "her necklace").
I know I see it this way, or is it just wishful thinking !

Best regards, Tel

Actually James, that is really a good image of M31. Anytime you can get the dust lanes and not have the core so bloomed out that you can't see much else - you have a very good image. I'm sure you can see that an f/10 scope makes framing that giant nearly impossible, even with an FF/FR. That galaxy simply covers way too much sky for a SCT telescope. Good going!

Tom, nice "tads" and 896. I'm really liking those Ha images from you and Tel!
Tel, nice 896. I guess my imagination is gone - I cannot see a sleeper in there. I guess you will have to be more specific?

Almost left this out, James. Tel gave you a good guiding option. If putting together those parts turns out to not be possible you might wish to take a look at this:
Linky-dinkaroo
This gives you a new system almost exactly the same as the one Tel recommended (brand names aside).

Hi Skip,
Many thanks for your kind comments.
It may be my vivid, possibly warped imagination, but follow the central black line in my image from left to right and you should see, (imagine) that it traces the profile of "her" left cheek as she lays on a pillow, (the nebulous area below that black line) ! The "face" should then leap out at you !
A Cezanne, perhaps ?

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I am my worst critic especially after that awesome M31 from a few pages back (ala uggbits I think). Thanks for the link Skip. Is it worth getting the 80mm short tube refractor set up at the right of the page? And no Peter I have not completely given into the dark side. It is very interesting to actually see details in those smudges in the eyepiece but it comes at a high price. Not just the equipment but the time and effort. I really can appreciate those images in magazines and it's a nice way to share with friends and family.
Nice images Tel and Tom. And I can't see that woman sleeping on the nebula. You really need to ahem ,,,,nevermind!

Hi James,
I would say - definitely! Same price. I didn't notice that. But that short tube 80mm gets pretty good reviews and would double as a good refractor. At f/5, you could probably get all of M31 in an image. Good catch!

Ok now I see the woman with her eye closed and hair curled around her ear. I also see a face of a chimp at 10 o'clock and the face of a sad man with large dark circles around his eyes at 9.

Your 10 o'clock face is the face I see James, but I think it looks like Miss Piggy.

Tel, Let me clear the air about this mysterious image of yours...
1st at the edge of the frame left center, is a face of a monkey, just below it is a yellow jacket wasp laying horizontally on its back, with a super miniature turtle (looking to its left) on its belly.
Case closed...
Pete
