Look what I found...
      #5422067 - 09/15/12 09:41 AM Attachment (49 downloads)

...when I arrived at work at the Cernan Space Center. It was just sitting there with no explanation as to why it was there. It appears to be complete but definitely needs some work. I did a quick collimation but it has some issues. I was amazed at how heavy the mount is.

Congratulationson that find/gift?
That is a Meade model 3001 fork mounted 6". It looks to be in good condition. Can you describe the "issues"?
Pictures of the issues would help. I suggest you do NOT take the secondary spider assembly apart. The spider assembly is not user friendly.
Do you have the manual? There are two manuals, one for the OTA (model 3007), and one for the fork mount (model 3008).

These scopes are one of Edmunds most unique with substantial aesthetics. However, you will find that the leg spread is one of the largest around and it will occupy a big area.

You have a fairy godmother or WHAT ????

That scope sure beats the best thing I've ever found tossed:a stereo component amp needing only a fuse to work.

I don't know that it is a gift or what but there is a name and number posted on it. Maybe the owner brought it in to be fixed up?? The main issue noticed was that the secondary was like a tuning fork and the spider was just not doing the job. There also is a lot of corrosion on the mirror cell screws and springs. Off to observe with big scopes in dark skies. More later....

my best find was a dyson vacuum cleaner, just one £3 hose to fix it. the wife is very happy.
