When I concluded my observation of the North America Nebula, I aimed my binoculars at the Veil Nebula. Both the eastern and western segment are visible in my binoculars at 21.6x. The challenge lies in framing the full 3° of sky in one field of view. I soon realized that only my 32mm Plössls could bring this exercise to a good ending. The next evening, I set up my binoculars with the 32mm eyepieces. At 13.5x the sky looked rather bright, even with the UHC filters in place. I first tried to locate 52 Cygni, but failed. I found the eastern loop of the Veil easily. It turned out to be the brightest part of the loops. I knew that both segments must fit in the same fov. Thus the brightest star west was 52 Cygni. Detecting the western loop was difficult. The glare of 52 Cygni overpowers the subtle glow of the western loop. It takes a lot of patience to make out any nebulosity in the vicinity of this lighthouse. I must have studied the region of the Veil Nebula for about an hour when I noticed a third brightening between both loops. It is a weak patch just west of the center of the fov. The Veil Nebula is a fine object, but patience and persistence are the key to making this wide-field observation to a success.

I looked at your sketch before reading your post and saw the faint spot in the middle. It's almost imperceptible. Very nice sketch.

Had you considered an O-III filter instead? I ask because we're gonna begin with just one filter, and the UHC will probably be it, even tho the O-III maybe has sum advantage for the Veil and planetaries.

A most realistic rendering! Considering the limited dynamic range of our computer screens, one could hardly expect a better representation of what to expect at the eyepiece. Excellent work!
For this object I generally prefer a UHC type filter so as to include also the H-beta emission, which somewhat better 'fleshes out' the full extent. The O-III emission is more prominent at the outermost edge of the shock front, where rapid deceleration sufficiently excites this harder-to-ionize gas. The hydrogen emission is more extensive, with a thicker extent in depth at the shock front.
Your rendering of the two loops is very like my view in my 20.8X60 bino with Orion Ultrablocks (UHC-like). However, I do see more of Pickering's wisp, extending farther south. And my field is a more generous 4.7 degrees.

wow, a masterpiece! may i ask how do you attach the filters to your bino (sorry if it's offtopic here)? i have some 1.25" and some 2" filters (both UHC and O-III), perhaps I should do some experiment

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.
@Starquake: My 70mm binoculars accept regular 1.25" eyepieces. The filters are screwed on the eyepieces. In your case, you could tape the 2" filters on the objectives of your 50mm binoculars. Otherwise you can try to squeeze the 1,25" filters in the rubber eyecups of your binoculars. If the eyecups are too wide, you can cut some foam rings to make a tight fit.
Clear skies,
