I had a friend give me a pair of Chinese 10X60 binoculars for me helping him sell his scope. They are Visioner name.282ft @ 1000 yds. They have super long eye relief, very comfortable wearing my glasses viewing. I was shocked at how well corrected these were on the outer 1/4 of field! for only about 40 bucks! Fully Multi coated/W BAK 4 prisms, rubber armor coated water proof. Has anybody heard of these before? I love nice surprises like this. M57 Ring easily seen from inside of town as were M13, M2 and even M51! Large eye lenses, The exit pupils are pretty big but I am lucky that my Pupils still open up past 6mm eyepieces dont wobble like I thought they would. I gotta find out where he got these so I can buy another pair and keep these behind my car seat, You never know when there will be something to see. Larry I can only wonder if they were 15X60??

Good luck with your new binoculars, we're waiting for a first light and don't forget to measure effective aperture with a flashlight behind the eyepieces projecting the light to a wall.

I had a Visioneer 20x80 that was a respectable performer. It had 4 element eyepieces with a nice wide field. A good value for under $100, though I did have to return the first one I got because of some apparent shipping damage.

The quality of the optics coming out of China is impressive ... they certainly give the expensive Japanese and stupidly expensive European glass a run for the money. Unfortunately ... at least with the inexpensive Chinese bins ... quality control issues and mediocre build quality can be somewhat of a problem. However ... contrary to the opinion of others ... if you receive bins free of manufacturing defects and well collimated , or willing to return defective ones for replacement ... they can deliver many years of enjoyment observing the night sky and nature. After all ... many, many observers have no need for or have any desire to own $500 bins. As a 30 year deep-sky observer, I've purchased a number of sub-$100 Chinese binoculars ... only one pair was returned for replacement ... and have been very pleased with their performance ... even with their minor optical defects and mediocre build quality.
Enjoy your "new" 10x60 binoculars!

Larry,
The mini-review is almost three years old and I have not been able to locate a dealer on the internet.

It was a good read, Say thanks on the flashlight test. I hadn't heard of it before but shining through the eyepiece end I was getting the full 60mm, I assume that is good. What other cool tricks do you guys eer and gals have to share with me. I like these about as good as the Russian 20X60's I had in the early 90's, With the exception of them STINKING like musty.. from the case. I think I gave a whole 30 bucks for them, just for the heck of it, I looked for a pair the other day, and they are over 100 bucks!!!! These have a lot better contrast than a pair of Zhumell 70mm binos.. They are quickly becoming my fav all arounds. I looked and Telescope Warehouse didn't have them, Neither does EbAy, so I'm still looking. That review was pretty accurate. thanks again.. your Bino learning buddy

If the 282' @ 1,000yd is correct, the TFoV is 5.38 degrees, making for an AFoV of ~54 degrees at the stated 10X. This is a not-wide field, and not so prone to poor outer field sharpness.
When doing the flashlight test, be sure the light is a good foot from the eyepiece, the bino is focused for infinity, and the light source itself is not too big (a bright, single LED flashlight is good.)
After determining the working aperture, measure the exit pupil accurately, if you can. The magnification then equals the working aperture divided by the exit pupil diameter.
If indeed this bino is working at or very near to the full aperture, its good performance--at such low cost--is indeed impressive.

Thanks Glen, What is the Mathmatic equation to determine true FOV The eyepieces are not that wide I'd say about 55 degrees. the exit pupil looks to be about 6mm, kind of big for day use, but they are great in low light. I was looking at some labd base obects last night after dark and I could see things invisible to my naked eye, cool.... One word of advice, don't look through them while riding in a car, they make you sea sick.... thnx again Lar

Unless the distortion characteristics of the system are known, it's much more accurate to measure directly the true field than try to calculate it. In fact a direct measurement in all things is usually preferred, and indeed is the correct scientific method.
You can simply find a pair of stars which just barely appear simultaneously at opposite sides of the field, then find their angular separation with any number of planetarium software.
I prefer this to the 'nearby measuring tape technique', although the latter is useful if the distance between bino and tape is, say, a hundred feet (30m) or more. Too near a distance and the field of view is underrepresented, due to the close focus requiring the eyepiece to be moved some distance out, resulting in effectively a longer objective focal length. However, if the field stop is fixed, and does not move with the eyepiece, the tape-measured value is more reliable. You can tell if the field stop is fixed; over the range of focus, if sharp at some particular eyepiece position and then blurring as the focuser carries the eyepiece in either direction away from this point, the field stop is (nominally) fixed in place at or near the objective's focal surface for infinity.
