M27 with modded T2i

This is a stack of ten 75 second images at iso 3200. I cropped it a bunch to see how much details were in the image and for just a 80 mm objective and 400 mm focal length there is a lot. I think if I had about 20 more frames this would be a really nice image, although not bad as is considering.

Not bad Ralph, what are you using to process? If you are using Photoshop you should try noel carbonis tools to knock out those violet halos.

Don't have photoshop yet. Just trying out different things to see what works and what doesn't. Didn't like the purple stars but figured I would post it incase someone has that size ed ota and was wondering what it might be able to do minus the purple. Good luck on your capturing project.

Thanks Erik, I wasn't sure how this would turn out with just a 80mm lens and just 400mm fl. I know I have seen others post questions on what kind of targets these small scopes can capture. This is an extreme crop from the original DSS tiff image.

There is a feature in DSS that lets you pick a custom rectangle before stacking and do a 2X drizzle that is a better way to crop and is helpful when you dont have a long FL , I was stuck with no high FL for a long time.

It does look as though the focus is just a smidge off though , did you use a Bahtinov mask or some other kind of focus tool?

Will have to try that feature of DSS. This was a rush job and was mostly to try out the camera. I had just gotten back from home at 3:30am from picking up the camera about 6 and a half hours drive from me. So I went ahead and setup my most simple rig and started shooting away after doing a quick align and what I would call a rough focus. After doing that crop which is the tightest crop I have ever done on an image I noticed that it looked a little off also. I use the live view mode and the magnifier that it has built in, but like I said I was rushing this set and I was kind of tired after being on the road for over 12 hours. I just couldn't resist, got home and the sky was clear after being cloudy and rainy for about 4 days. I will try to do better in the future. Hoping to have some clear skys tonight, last night there were lots of high wispy clouds hanging out that were hard to see in the dark but showed up whenever you tried to image something so just gave up.
