Widefield with the OM-1 pointed up at 3h36 in the morning. 50mm lens F/8. guided with a QHY5 connected to a 10x50 finder. Probably 10 minutes.

This is a great effort considering the light pollution you must deal with. Superia film is doing well here for the short exposures.
Do keep at it and keep posting here. Love the OM-1 camera. What lenses did you use?

The one that comes with the camera. It's Zuiko.
Luckly the light pollution is not directly overhead .

They are good fast lenses. Depending upon the light pollution f/8 could be reduced to say f/4 for the 10 minutes. Nebulae should make an appearance then. I'm shooting 90 minutes at f/6.7 for example. At f/5.6 it's around 55 minutes for a full exposure with a lens that is f/4.
Play around with various stops and find what works best. I push the E200 films 1.5 stops also, but I would not worry about that at the beginning until you get to know the film.

This one has potential. I would suggest trying it again with shorter exposures - maybe a series of frames to bracket and see what comes out best. Stars record quite well with short exposures, otherwise their colours can get washed out.

In regard to light pollution what filter would work best for this lens?
Thanks

My suggestion would be to try an LP (light pollution) that the CCD guys use and has been tried here as well with film. A B+W KR 3 filter might be another choice as it cuts some of the green.
If your lenses have various sized filters - get a filter to fit the largest, and then buy step down rings to fit smaller lenses. You could try an A1 (UV) filter as well which could help.

You might be also interested in background subtraction. I've done it in Pleiades PixInsight 1.0.2 LE. If you want to get this program, send me a PM. If you consider purchasing a CLS filter, be aware it suppresses light pollution, but makes stars green and this can't be easily corrected in a photo editor.

Can you be more specific? I've searched the forum but couldn't find any reference (i know, user error)

It wasn't a specific thread on the LP filter - just some photos showing the results of using a specific brand. It is maybe 1 or 2 months ago at most. I will try looking for it as well. The KR 3 filter will not turn stars green - but the other types might.

You can bring out more with imaging software like Gimp. It's free. This is a quick and novice adjusment of curves, I hope you don't mind.

I've been rebuilding an Olympus OM-1. Now that I'm finished, I cannot wait to try and do some photo's like these! Thanks for the thread.
