Hello all
This is a drawing of the famous Double Cluster in Perseus - NGC 884 and NGC 869:
http://www.deepskywatch.com/Astrosketches/perseus-double-cluster-sketch.html
The sketch was made with a graphite pencil, on a white paper (inverted). I observed with a 10" Skywatcher equatorial Newtonian, 18mm ES82 eyepiece and a Paracorr, under ~6 magnitude skies. Also I was using my new observing chair - and I must admit it made a HUGE difference. Drawing, while comfortably sitting, with a sketch pad on my knees

Michael,
The is a real treat to look at. You have wonderfully captured the colors of the brightest stars and acurately positioned all of them.

Hello Michael,
Wonderful sketch! I know how much effort and energy goes in drawing such a crowded star-field. One can use all the comfort there is.

A most admirable effort. Drawing OC's is very difficult. Didn't you see any nebulosity from unresolved stars at this magnification? I like the subtle color. The different size of stars as a primary means of conveying their brightness - personally not so much, but of course it is a common convention. The yellowish stars (the bright one on the border top-right and a few fainter ones in the middle) - how was it done? After inverting in Photoshop?

I didn't see any nebulosity, apart from the usual milky way background. Colours were marked on a separate sheet, and added in photoshop with a brush tool in "colour" mode.

This is a clever technique, I'll make a note of it.

very good job, I did a couple sketches last year where there where only 10 or 15 stars in the FOV. This must have been a chore. Wow...

Amazing sketch, Michael. Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to do such a good job. How long did this sketch take you to do? Was it over a couple nights adding to it, or many hours in one night?

I have viewed many of the drawings in your gallery and am not surprised by the quality of this one. You've been able to bring to your paper a satisfying, realistic reproduction that few could ever hope to do.I truly look forward to your next drawing and can only suggest that other members take the time to view your gallery if they hav'nt already.
