Hello again
Here is Jupiter from his morning. I had intended to get a good look at the Little Red Spot in conjunction with the Great Red Spot, however by the time I got set up it was already 4 O'clock (bst) and the pair were close to rotating into the dark murky limb of Jupiter.
As soon as I started to observe, the seeing became really quite bad due to a thin later of cloud materialising from nowhere and it was all I could do to see the GRS, never mind its smaller counterpart. The seeing did eventually stabilise but Jupiter's rotation has carried my intended targets out of view by then. Still I am pleased with the result and I think my colour accuracy is getting better now too (the first couple of drawings this year have been a bit orange).

Chris,
You always make lemonade out of a sour lemon sky. Very fine sketching, the detail you capture is a testament to your persistence and skills.

Hi Chris,
Very nice sketch, thanks for posting it.
By the way do you use color pencils when you sketch or add it later, and what paper do you use?
Best,
Eric Jamison

Excellent Chris.
You werent far off with the orange really as the the temperate belt along the NEB is actually orange tinged. At anyrate I particularly like the SEB details and the GRS.

Chris,
I missed seeing this one somehow--really fine drawing! I see that you rendered the GRS as oddly shaped, too.
The NTrZ/NTB area looked salmon colored to my eye on the 30th.

Terrific drawing! I love it. Did you actually sketch on black paper?

Thank you all for the replies; in answer to the couple about the way in which I produced the drawing, I sketch in pencil at the telescope making lots of notes about colour, then I come inside and make a faint copy of the sketch again using pencil but this time on white velour paper, which I then build up layers of colour on using pastel pencils. The drawing is then cut out with a scalpel, limb darkening added using more pastel, and it is mounted in a black sketch book.
I also take my previous colour drawings out to the telescope with me from time to time to see how accurate my colour reproduction is so I can adjust it next time if needs be.
I urge you all to get up before dawn at the next opportunity and get a look at Jupiter while oval BA is still in conjunction with the GRS to see if you can split them, it's a cool sight!
