This M33 sketch was done last Friday at my local dark site. Although the sky was fairly good at the zenith the skyglow from the nearest city was the same direction as the galaxy so conditions weren't as good as I hoped and I wast too sure if I'd pick out any detail due to the low surface brightness and it being prone to LP problems. The sketch/observation took around 1 1/4 hr to complete and the more I observed the more detail popped out making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
I apologise for the strange horizontal banding in the picture, I have no idea what caused it, must of been some problem with the camera.
That was probably my last DSO sketch with my 12" Skywatcher as hopefully my 16" Sumerian Canopus will be arriving before the next new moon!

Thanks Jean and yep its pastel. I've been experimenting with different brands for a while and decided on Conte' as they seem a little more oily than others making it easier to work with in the dark.

Extremely nice sketch of M33, lots of structure in there. I can rememeber the days when I could stand in the local town centre and still observe M33 with 8x30 binoculars.

This is an absoluty wonderful sketch. Great job Mike!
If I can be a little critical though, I would have expected to see NGC 604 (I can see it in my 4-inch refractor) and some of the other numbered HII regions to show up with this much detail. It would also be nice to have shown north and west on the sketch although I think I can tell from the field-of-view. Other than these things this is a great sketch.

Awesome sketch, Mike! Very reminiscent of what I see through my 12-inch Dob.

That is a beautiful sketch, Mike! It always pays off to be patient with deep-sky observing: the longer you observe, the better the experience becomes.
Nice to see that there are still dark skies in the UK.

Mike, That is spot-on mate. You've really caught the subtleties of this object, and that's not an easy thing to do. Cheers Sean
