I always loved the white light vs H-alpha sketches here on CN (like those by Mel). Now that I have my own H-alpha scope I tried for first light to copy the concept. Sketching a full solar disk ain't no easy. I sketched the bright features with a white pastel pencil but the scanner didn't catch it. And how do you sketch granulation???

Nice work, Jef and congratulations on your H-alpha scope. Great detail with the proms and filament.
The granulation in H-alpha is hard to render--I don't know if anyone is truly satified with their attempts up to now. I know I'm not.

Jef,
Congratulations too for your new H-a scope. It opens an entire new and dynamic astro time slot.
I find granulation impossible with my equipment and skill level so ignore it. That's the sketcher's choice.

Jef,
That was a good move to get yourself a H- alpha scope. I can't wait for round the clock sketching from you. The two above are wonderful.

Michael, Mel & Frank: thanks! Just a pity that I decided to by a H-a scope after summer. The sun gets lower and lower every day But this means: longer darker nights

Jef.
Really lovely sketches. You seem having caught very nice details and I like your surface rendition. Tell me. I imagine your original drawing are bigger than what you are showing us. I would like to see a bigger image to really enjoy more your sketches.
You are right, its sad you got your scope when summer is ended. But at least you got it before the end of high sun's activity. Congratulation.
Andre.

I really like your sun sketches, Jef! H-a requires good observation skills. You proved to have what it takes!
Hope to see more of your sketches.
