I spent a little time observing doubles in Capricorn last night and stumbled across RT Cap south of Beta. Really pretty right now. The color in my 10" dob seemed rusty orange. It stood out very distinctly from nearby stars, which is what caught my attention.
I don't know much about this star really, never observed it before. I had to look it up on a chart to see what it was called. I looked it up at AAVSO to find it's light curve and spectrum--N3 and just under 400d, mag 7.5 - 11 or so.
It seems to be in a brighter part of it's cycle right now. Definitely worth a look.

DJ, I observed this star last year as part of the AL Carbon Star Program. RT Cap is a semiregular variable which appeared orange in my 10" refl. You made an excellent observation.

Thanks Rich, and your welcome Dan.
I checked a few other places and the magnitude range varies with the reference material. Burnhams is different from HNSKY software, etc., both vary from AAVSO some.
Magnitude estimates of carbon stars can be tricky visually, but the next clear night I get I will give it a go.
