Hi,

The Stories are the reason I collect meteorites. Lets face it, many meteorites are ugly. I have had many people describe my prize sample of Forrest City as resembling a tar covered piece of concrete. And you know what, they are right.
The stories are varied: Zagami, I came from Mars. Sylacauga, I hit a woman the ended up in court. Mabel, people ate me hoping that I would cure AIDS. Almahata Sitta, I was photographed in space. Ensisheim, I was chained to a church so that I would not fly back into the sky. Forrest City, there was a court case about me that created the precedent that the owner of the land owned the meteorites on the land. These stories could go on forever. That is what makes meteorites so fascinating to me.

Wondering going back to "Lucy" one of our earliest ancestors, 3.2 million years ago, as they forged for their daily meal, what went through their minds to see a streak of blinding light and fire come out of no where and just as fast as it appeared, disappear. The early roots to human imagination and curiosity?

I find the Elbogen story interesting. And having a fairly large Chinga I enjoyed the recent story of the statue. I have a DVD of the Tuvan throat singers from the area where the Chinga was found, including a charming clip from a Chevy Chase show with a cute little kid throat singing and his teacher performing more sophisticated throat singing. Richard Feynman took an interest in the Tuvans and was instrumental in starting the Friends of Tuva. There's a book about Feynman's trip called Tuva or Bust.

According to Esko Lyytinen a large meteor bounced twice on Earth's upper atmosphere. Looks like it was a view similar to the 1972 Grand Teton meteoor which was filmed by a tourist with an 8-mm camera in Wyoming:
