Greetings all!
Well after my trip to the US I got back a few weeks but have been waiting for the sky to clear! Anyway, here's a Jupiter observation I made with the kind assistance of Dr. Hugh Sasses. Attached is a drawing of Jupiter made last night with the University of Leicester's 508mm (20") Planewave Dall-Kirkham telescope. Seeing conditions were average at best with some moments of turbulent air. Drifting cloud posed occasional problems (until 0051UT when they became complete even though the Met office insisted it was clear...)
The planet was examined in IL x288 and the main points were as follows:
-SPR dark greyish
-Not a lot of detail in the STB-SPR, no signs of a complete SSTB, everything in this region rather vague and ill-defined
-GRS rather weak with only a small amount of colour present, the shadow of Io was visible nearby
-Oval BA contained a little more colour than the GRS
-SEB much more turbulent following the GRS although it was hard to record the turbulence with any accuracy
-EB seemed to be present
-NEB seemed to contain some interesting details, although in the poor seeing it was hard to define them properly
-NTropZ dark
-NTB broad with darker boundaries on its north and south sides.
-Darker greyish band (NNTB?) near the NPR.
A number of transit timings were also made. We did intend to do some filter work to see visually how oval BA compared with the GRS but alas the clouds came up at 0051UT and we were forced to retire.
Best wishes,
-Paul.

The bigger aperture always seems to bring out the warmer salmon/orange casts and vivid festoon hues. Nice stuff Paul.

Paul,
Excellent sketch--Io's shadow makes quite a contrast with the Jovian cloudtops. Nice rendering of Oval BA, too. Must be a great telescope!
