Hi, I just received a 11 lb losmandy counterweight I'm planning to use on CGEM DX. It came with a locking screw, however, there is no hole on the side of counterweight that the locking screw goes in. Do I need to drill the counterweight to use the lock screw or am I missing something here ???

I've never seen a CW like that. I'd call the supplier and ask. Sounds like you got an odd ball that needs to be replaced.

Hmmm . . . weird. Are you sure it's a Losmandy weight? Attached is pic of their 21 pounder. I would expect the 11 lb weight to look similar.

here is the pic.
According to the product pic and your pic as well, there must be a threaded hole next to the engraved 11, but it's not there. and no threaded hole around the CW.
I talked to OPT and they told me that they have seen this problem with Losmandy CW in the past and they're going to exchange it.

Ooops. looks like somebody was in a hurry to get off their shift to catch the football match. Your lucky you are within reasonable shipping distance to exchange it. Imagine this happened to somebody living across the Atlantic like me? If this had happened to me, I'd be very very upset.

Ouch! Lucky me, I got an 11 lb. weight extra with my G11 last year. Did not need to use it until recently. Never thought to check. It is just fine, or I'd have been the one posting this issue!
Glad to hear OPT is taking care of it. They took good care of me in the past when I had a problem with a purchase.

OPT is a great outfit. They were able to find covers for my Coronado etalon while other dealers like Anacortes Telescope couldn't be bothered.

I wouldn't. Oh, I mean sh--er..."stuff"--happens, but Losmandy doesn't exactly give counterweights away. Given their prices I would expect "works" from such a simple thing.

Well I guess I should qualify my humor by saying that I know losmandy and/or opt would take care of it. I would actually probably call up Scott directly and see if he would replace the weight and let me keep the original to have around as a curiosity.

You realize it won't weigh quite as much if they drill a hole in it, right?
