LX200 Classic mount.

Am switching my older LX5 mount to a LX200, for my observatory.. Am trying to get the 200 mount to link up to the computer via a serial to usb converter. The computer, or the mount will not 'TALK' to each other, no matter how I configure the port.. Anyone have any idea what I should try next? I am at a loss..

Are you using the autostar software and have you downloaded the driver for the usb/serial convertor?

Some of the "cheap" Chinese USB-to-Serial Adapters won't work with the LX200 "Classic" ... I've never had a problem connecting my LX200 "Classic" to a computer using a Keyspan USB-to-Serial Adapter.

The Meade LX200 classic required a proprietary RS232 to USB cable. I had to make my own in those days because Meade didn't offer one. After that point, I think a standard conversion cable works. The owner's manual shows how to wire the cable. If you don't have the owner's manual, it might be on the Meade website under support and manuals.

Keyspan rules! I even have a prolific that does not work correctly.

It will take two cables--one is the RS232 to 9 pin serial. the other is the 9pin serial to USB converter cable. The first cable is the proprietary one, the second is fairly universal.
I connected my Classic in 1993 when laptops had 9pin serial ports and then later when they didn't.
