Hello dear friends,
yesterday a second parcel arrived at me. It's a sweet little WELTBLICK 60/910 mm refractor. "Weltblick" was here in germany a label like Sears in USA or Prinz in UK- These japanese scopes were imported and sold by NECKERMANN. Other "house-labels" here in germany were "Revue" by QUELLE, "Apollo" by NECKERMANN and many others.... I was a little bit disappointed when the scope arrived, because the seller had used the original gift box as a shipping box ! You can see in the first photo the ugly tapes all around the box !The seller is defintiv no collector ! The scope itself is in very good condition - except one of the tripod legs. This one is dryed out and formed like a bow. I have to replace it. The OTA is really heavy for such a little scope ! The OAZ is very nice and much nicer is the fact, that the drawtube ended in a Vixen-style 36,4 mm thread ! Included in this set : 3 eyepieces, a nice 6x30 finder, a very nice builded mount with fine graduaded circles, a sun projectionshield, erectingprism, star diagonal, counterweight + shaft ( of course ).....it seems to be all complete ! Seller told me, that his father bought it in 1968 or 1970. Because of the cardbox, I guess more 1970 than 1968.... okay the cardbox is a disappontment and in very ugly condition now. Well I think I will build a new classic-style wooden cabinett by myself...lets see and wait..
Following a few pics.
Kind regards, Michael from germany

You might try getting that bowed leg wet, then putting barbel weights on it to hold it straight and let it dry. I flattened out a warped dresser top that way.

Nice scope, it is like new!
Tim is correct about correcting a bowed leg. I bend wood as a hobby (into guitars) and by wetting the wood and then HEATING it, the leg will bend easily. You should find a way to hold it straight while it cools. The trick is to generate some steam in the wood which softens the lignin. Perhaps you could use a steam heated radiator?

Beautiful scope! I especially like the way it's packaged, all in one layer, instead of in two layers like the scopes I tend to find here in the States.

Hello,
today I played a little bit with this small scope and I was very very impressed about the fantastic mechanical quality of this little mount !!! It is nearly a shame to say, that this mount is much sturdier than the mount from my Tasco 10 k !!! I wish I could adopt this mount to fit my 1ok !!!
Kind regards, Michael

Bending the leg with hot water... would it work damage something if he put it in a bathtub filled with hot water? or would it not be hot enough?
Amazing the charm of small scopes. We all know their limits, but also areas I which they excell, and love them.
Mr. 60mm appears to have a 4" big brother on the shelf in the background. Care to introduce us?

Hello Joe,
the one i the background is my all over loved original
Kosmos/Lichtenknecker LW 90.
These scopes were made by Lichtenknecker Optics in Belgium.
This guy is the 90/1300 mm AK. It's ready for the famous Lichtenknecker System 64 !I have the original mount for it with motor-drive. The mount is called LO 60, in Germany "Orion 60". The Lichtenknecker scopes were sold during the years 196x till around 1985 by the german distributor "KOSMOS-Stuttgart" under their own names.
The 90/1300 mm refractor is original called "90 R" in Belgium, in germany it was sold by KOSMOS-Stuttgart as "KOSMOS LW 90" for example.
I have here a ( bad ) photo. Refractor and mount are original, only the pier is a selfmade by me. A fantastic scope and enourmos sturdy mount !! I think much more stable than a H-EQ5 !!( This is the scope, I will never sell !!! ).
Maybe if I'm 80 years old and nearly blind - I would not sell it, but would donate it to an young astronomy-friend...
Kind regards, Michael

Thanks, Michael! Your pier looks fine, and the scope is truly beautiful. I don't want to wish you any ill, but if you're feeling old, consider me a young astronomer!

Michael,
The 60 mm scope is awesome. The mount looks Royal Astro (ish) the azimuth circle is nice and seldom seen.
And isn't having at least one scope (your 90mm) that you know you will hang with till the end just the best feeling? I have yet to figure out what my last scope would be, but it is a good exercise. In the event of a house fire I would literally be toast trying to decide which scope to save.
