I ask because I know the pier extension that Orion sells will mate up with the CG-5 asgt and it says it's also compatible with the Sirius EQ-G. I just want to use the beefier tripod that came with my cg-5. Anyone try this?
thanks, Andy

Yes, that is what I used with my Sirius. Works great.

Do they sell the Sirius on the 1.75" SVP tripod?
There is a subtle difference between the SVP and the CG-5 hub. The Az alignment pin is slightly taller on the CG-5 hub and the SVP and Meade LXD55/75 mount will not fit with out getting out the file. You may have this problem if the Sirius uses the same hub as the SVP.

I was also thinking about using a 2" CG-5 tripod with my Sirius EQ-G. Is it a straight one-to one swap, with no problems with the alignment peg or the attachment of the central rod to the mount? Or do I have to "get out my file?"
Advise appreciated.

Yes it will work without problems. I also bought the 16" Orion SVP pier extension and have it mounted on the CG-5 tripod without issue. I love it, but the extra height of the pier is a matter of personal preference. I like it, but then again, I am 6'2
thanks,

Here is a shot with the pier. It makes it very tall, but it is very stable.

BTW the mounting hardware for each of the two piers (SVP and Atlas) are interchangeable. Having both allows one some flexibility.
