Need Help... I have purchised a used 12" LX200 w/wedge back in March in Oklahoma City and everything seemed to work fine for selecting/slewing and tracking stars/planets. After I updated the software from 1.4 to 4.2g now I can't seem to align it correctly. I brought it back to Alaska with me and tried several times to align it but selecting a star or planet is still way off. I performed it step by step with the owners manual and tried watching several videos on You Tube but no help. Maybe it's my understanding of the Az/Dec ring and locks or just the Polar Align that I'm not doing right... Please Help?
I suspect that when you download new firmware it defaults all the data that was stored during the initial setup. You don't say if you have a Classic or one of the newer units but from the firmware code I am guessing newer. I can't remember all the steps I went through, or the order, but sensors and motors need to be calibrated and daylight savings time needs to be selected. I think there was something else but it does not come to me right now.

You definitely are going to want to calibrate sensors.
Are you using it with the GPS turned on?
Can you tell us a bit more about how you are set up and what you are doing to get sky-aligned?

And there are astro-talks and stargazing afterwards the first and third Fridays of the month during the winter at the Eagle River Nature Center. There will be club members there who may be able to help you as well.
The Campbell Creek Science Center in Anchorage also has astro-talks and stargazing (when clear) during the winter months on the second Thursday of the winter months. Or at least they used to when I lived there. Worth checking out.

A 'one star' alignment is about all your are going to get accurate alignment with in polar mode. But, you first need a good polar alignment with the scope on your wedge. Here's a video that I found helpful with polar aligninghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw0_O3tUhLo
