Hello all,

I've managed to observe Sirius B for the first time. It was clearly visible, probably due to it's increasing 11 second separation. During my previous attempts I usually had to use some imagination, in order to notice anything.

Date: 12 sep 2012. Telescope: Skywatcher 250mm F/5 Newtonian on EQ6, 6mm TMB planetary eyepiece (200X). Seeing ~6/10. NELM 6.5.

That is just awesome and a fine sketch. It's on my list again for this winter especially with the separation going up. Did you need an occulting bar, or just go straight at it?

No bars, that's why I got excited. It was clearly visible with direct vision - just like in the "zoomed" region on my sketch.
By the way when I used a more quality LVW 5mm eyepiece - it produced too many ghosts (secondary images) to see anything. Surprisingly the cheaper TMB 6mm produced almost no ghosts (apart from one big out of focus one)

Good job on the drawing and finding the white dwarf, even when near maximum separation, seeing, mediocre optics and scatter in the eyepiece can and do hide it from view. In 25 years or so, it will be impossible to see at all in amatuer telescopes unless you have a very large one where the seeing is superb. I believe periastron or closest approach to the white hot primary star will occur around 2044, so you will want to watch this star often until it becomes too close to see again.

Oh wow. That is amazing and add me on the observing list for the next coming days. This is very spectacular. Your sketch is so terrific. Surely its a great challenge to find Sirius B.

I had a bit difficulty to understand why now Sirius B is easier to see. Nor Starry Night and Stellarium show Sirius B but Sky Tools pro 3 does. The coming years will be even better. Someone posted this graph to show Sirius B orbit and 2025 is the best year.

Great sketch and observation of the Pup.
In the last two years, I've managed to see it with
my 4 inch APO refractor.

Very nice!! I love the color.

This sketch is another example why I enjoy view everyone's sketches. It reminds me of being at the eyepiece under the heavens.

Superb in every way! I agree that the color representation is excellent. I mostly enjoy the realism produced by the spider vanes. Wonderful.

I think you are mistaken. According to a chart from Andrev (for example) - Sirius B is east and slightly north from Sirius A. This is exactly how my drawing shows it.

I'm attaching a screenshot from Guide 9 software, of the same field of view. It's easy to compare with sketch.
Everything is in place, except maybe for a tiny difference in alignment with north.
This is a photo I found of this region - also quite easy to identifiy.
