What size Pelican Case is that?
The way it all fits, looks really good and most of all, safe and secure.

It is a 1660 Pelican and I got it for about $150.00 from a site linked through Google shopping.
In that I live in Manhattan now. I keep my telescopes in a self storage facility and am streamlining everything for easy transport. All together and in cases.
A co-worker sold me his Pelican 1550 with padded inserts for $50.00 and I am going to use that for weights, tripod spreader, batteries, hold an old laptop, tool kit etc.
I just can't be spread out all the time running back into the house for this or that.
One thing, I cannot close the lid with the ADM saddle nuts on. The lid presses too much. So I have them stored to the side. The first thing I will do when I open the case will be to put them on before removing the mount.

I've been wondering about the best way to store and transport my CG5-GT. Thanks for starting this thread, as it gives me some ideas!

I would point out that what I paid for the Pelican is substantially less expensive than the case made by JMI.

That's good to know, as those JMI cases can be quite pricey!

Beautiful, but didn't the case cost more than the mount?
Pelican cases are on the pricey side.

Jim,
Good point! I could have bought that Mach 1 you are getting for the cost of the case!

I paid $120 for my Pelican case. Do you have a mount to sell for that price?

Not the go to kind...maybe I could just find a manual CG-5 clone with issues to justify the price of my my Tupperware/used bubble-rap case.
Had to go all the way back to the year 2002 to find that one didn't you Jim. Joe sold his dual axis drives in his next ad.

This is what I use for my CG-5 mount: Plano Four Pistol Case. It's not as tough as my Pelican, but solid enough and only $20.

I had considered the Plano Case. The price is certainly right. It's nice that everyone can find the right combinations of price, protection and coolness to suit them.

I used a plano case for a while, and that was cool. But since I use my CG5 with a C8, I came up with a better and even cheaper idea. Trotted down to the dadgum Wally World. Picked up a Tupperware style box deep enough to hold the C8 OTA and the CG5 head. Also grabbed a couple of pieces of foam from their craft department. Layer of foam in the bottom of the box, C8 on top of that, layer of foam on the OTA, CG5 head on that, top snaps on. I've been using this for at least five years, and it's done a good job of protecting OTA and mount, saves space in the truck, and was, best of all C-H-E-A-P..about ten George Washingtons...

Pelican cases are nice, but they are pretty pricy. Storage bins, a thrift shop suitcase, etc.. are some options. My CG5, shaft, C/W and tripod are stored and transported in a musician's padded speaker stand case. I don't recall exactly but it was pretty cheap, under $40.

Lots of extra space around the CG-5. It looks like a Mach 1 might fit in the 1660- pretty cool.
