I am looking for anyone who has direct experience with the Kendrick dew heater system for the Orion dobs. The Orion dobsonian secondarys are mounted via industrial strength double sided tape to a central stalk, and hence, the standard method cannot be used. Kendrick has two options: a wrap around heater for the stalk, and the other option is a "split-ring" heater which attaches directly to the outer edges of the 80mm secondary mirror. Anyone with experience with either of these, or if there is another option available, please let me know. I typically get dew formation around midnight this time of year and am disappointed with having to pack it in early

Onmy old XX14i I uses the wrap around heater without any problem. I also added a drop of silicone to the stalk and the mirror but I've never had a problem with yhe wrap around though I only use a dozen or so times a year.

Gene,
You may also want to do a search as Ken or 94Bamf had the type that fitted around the edge on his XX14i and really liked it. You won't go wrong either way.

I just received a new Kendrick secondary dew heater (split ring) and it was a very easy job to install. I used some silicone adhesive on the heater and then had some neoprene from a mouse pad that I cut into shape and glued on top of the heater. Looks really good and I didn't need to paint anything or use that expando foam that others have used. I think it is going to do the trick...

I have just finished installing my Kendrick dew system. It is a thermostatically controlled 8 element 4 watt heater. I did not feel comfortable mounting the 9V battery inside the tube and one thing led to another. A selector switch toggles between 9V on, off & 12V on. The 12V is supplied via an external power supply that can be plugged in next to the toggle switch. The power is then routed through a master kill switch/ground. This switch has an LED to show when power is being supplied when flipped on. I thought that would be helpful since the LED on the dew heater will not be lit until the heater activates. I have included pictures below. PS, the kill switch is off and not lit in the first picture. It looks on but that is just a reflection.
