I actually think this is potentially good news. If Kodak finds a buyer who is willing to put some energy into this (and why else why they buy it?), then we could see a strengthened film division. Better this than having the film production go down with the Kodak ship.

It is that "if" that could be the problem. It also depends what they sell--the factories and rights to produce the film? There is a lot more to it than mixing a few chemicals. Take the Impossible Project. Sure it is instant film, but it is nowhere near the quality of Polaroids films.

But it is sad that Kodak is dying and the fall out that goes with it.

Still, there is alway Fuji...

Buy Fuji disposable film cameras. BTW, Japan had disposable digital cameras you could by at the corner store and then return to have your pictures made.

Hopefully this will happen Gary. But it's a sad fact nevertheless when it ends in this manner. The company will end just like Mr. Eastman did by his own hand.

Kodak is just selling the marketing and distribution. Due to motion picture coating contracts going through 2015, they will still coat the film. They will most likely continue to shrink the offerings to fit the scale and offer what is most popular. For example, they just discontinued TMZ 3,200 yesterday.

I use more Kodak black and white than ever in my pro work...

On Oct 10, Kodak announced it will stop paying all existing retiree medical, dental, life insurance and survivor income benefits as of Dec 31. Reneged on 1.2 billion dollars owed to 50,000+ retired employees.

Now *that's* sad news.

Perez calls it "successful" - he keeps HIS millions coming for another year.

I won't be buying any Kodak products. For B&W, there's Ilford and Fuji.

I gave Kodak another go when Ektar film was re-introduced, but quickly went back to Fuji - Ilford except for E200 for astro use. It is extremely sad when people are treated this way - meaning the "rest of us".
