Just a pair of run of the mill WO's binos. With a cheap pair of Owl plossls inserted at the business end of a regular old refractor. Mike

Hi James,
The VERNONscope viewer has a 1.25" nosepiece and collet eyepiece holders, which hold both 1.25" standard, and Questar threaded eyepieces.

Here's my BV setup that I use for lunar and planetary. In addition to the BV I have pairs of Plossls in 25mm, 20mm, 15mm and 12mm. I also use the element from a GSO 2x barlow, which gives me about 3x in the BV. I not only use the BV in my 6" f/8 for lunar and planetary, but also in my AT72ED with the 25mm Plossls for 34x views of star fields, open clusters, etc. Like Tony the Tiger says, "THEY'RE GRRRRREAT!"
ADDED: I used the BV this morning in my AT72ED with the 12mm Plossls and the GSO barlow to observe Jupiter before work. I was very impressed with the sharp and detailed views of this grab-n-go setup. I'll be spending more mornings sipping my coffee and observing.

Hi Mark,
I purchased them over a year ago. If I recall correctly, Don had a run of about fifty of made to his specs; I was fortunate to purchase one of the last few left of the batch. I don't know about current production. Give Don a phone call rather than sending an e-mail, he will give you an update on his products, and availability; he's also a great guy to talk to.

Denk II's and powerswitch with the best binoviewing eyepieces on the planet, Brandons! Why? Because they are ultra light weight, not to mention the views they provide.

For deep sky objects that fit in its fov the 34's low scatter and excellent contrast teases out more detail for me. I also use them in longer focal length scope for lunar observing.

Here's mine. Baader Mark V w/1.7 GPC and CZJ orthos.
I still have - and love - the orthos, but I have a few pairs of Brandons (16, 12, and 8) that work extremely well, plus the "standard issue" 24 and 19 Panoptics.
Cheers,
Ron

These are my Orion binoviewers on my LightBridge 16 via an OPT 2x Barlow. I was soooo excited to find that this combination works! This gives the most stunning views of the moon and planets that I have ever had. Simply wonderul.
An interesting bonus of using binviewers on a 16"... it knocks the brightness down a bit! Jupiter is so bright that it softens the contrast. With the binoviewers it is far more comfortable and shows much improved contrast.

Another Binovue with 24 Tak Le's, no corrector or ocs needed with the refractor. In the ep case for BV:
Low power: 32 TV plossl, 23 Ultima WA
Medium: 18 Ultima, 13 TV plossl, 12.5 Ultima, 12.5 Tak Le
High: 10 Tak Le, 7.5 Tak Le, 6 Radian, 5 Ultima.
The redundant focal lengths are more for comparison. I find them all useful and little difference between the Ultimas and Le's.
The 6mm Radians are nice but I want to replace with 6 Brandons for weight.
No merging issues with the 5 Ultimas, but the eye relief is tight. Also only .55 mm exit pupil with the f/9 refractor.

My Blacknight binoviewer. Shown withn Siebert 24mm Ultras and Siebert Galaxy View Focal Reducer into a 2" Stellarvue diagonal on my C8. This particular combo gives me very nice views of M81/M82 and M65/M66. I also purchased an adpater from Harry Siebert that converts the Focal Reducer into a 1.5 barlow, for high power viewing. Of course, I can also use the Binoviewer without the focal reducer or barlow effects.

Here's a Night Vision binoviewer. Provides the Ultimate DSO viewing - especially of Globulars, Edge-on galaxies, and diffuse nebulae like the HorseHead (via an H-alpha filter).
This is a PVS-7A/C housing with a c-mount adapter and a c-mount to 1.25 inch telescope nosepiece.

Wow, they must be awesome....heavy?
Trust me, this combination is awsome, and viewes are really SUPERB!
It is not heavy much as it is in standard setup, MkV originally screwed ring + Baader #T2-16(Baader #16 Adapter from 2" to T2) + Baader T-2 Quick Changer # T2-06 2456313!
In this helps a LOT costum made 2" adapter that screws directly on Mark V body, so setup is much lighter, much sturdier, much more back focus reachable....many pluses in this setup!

Denis, this is the first NV Bino I have ever seen that attaches to a scope. I have a Russian made monocular that is fun to use, but not the best generation. Is this thing very expensive?

Simply, you can test GPCs vs BARCON, I do that, and sell all my GPCs!

Also, Baaders GPCs cause vignetting in some eyepieces! Simply try BARCON vs GPCs!

I dont want nor need x2 magnification
I use a SIEBERTS zero mag OCS system in my 2" TV diagonal and the Baader T2 bayonet clamps my Mk V's right on top....with a pair of 14mm Delos for about x200 mag or 24mm Pans for around x110...Delos 10mm's for higher mag when seeing allows....

To make this work, you need to cobble together a few parts.
Actually there are TWO U.S. PVS night vision goggles that can be attached to a telescope. Both the PVS-7B/D (most common unit) and the PVS-7A/C (more rare these days and out of production) can be used provided that one replaces the standard 1X front objective with a c-mount adapter. After that, all one needs is a c-mount to 1.25 inch telescope adapter. The price for a Gen 3 tube new is around $2K. The PVS-7 housings can run from $300 used to around $900 new. The c-mount adapters cost between $50 to $75 new.
Also, Gen 3 image intensifiers are restricted to the U.S. by ITAR laws. However, Gen 2 intensifiers can be had in many countries. The PVS-7 housings accept the MX-10130 intensifier tube format which is available in both Gen 3 and Gen 2.

You mean your C8.5 maybe. I am sure you are loosing at least 3/4 inch of apeture with this configuration and your obstruction is now likely 40% or more. The focal lenght is likley to be about 2750mm.
I am sure that you like this setup, but you are loosing a lot of true field and image brightness.
Only matters if it matters to you though.

Sweet looking setup.
Did you have to move the mirror forward some, or are you using some kind of OCS to reach focus?
I am badly wanting to build a Newtonian and would like it to binoview with no OCS or GPC and am curious to know you you got there.
I have thought about basing mine on a Go-To Dob, but have become concerned about the ergonomics when using binoviewers. I really like the ability to have infinite adjustment when using the Binoviewers on an SCT or refractor, but I am concerned that if I can't rotate the tube, I may have difficulty getting comfortable positions.
But I like your setup and am interesed in the details if you could share them.

One of these days to test this, I am going to replace the cloth shroud with a sheet of 0.060" ABS wrapped around to make a tube, it would be captured by the truss poles.
I had to loosen up on the collimation bolt a little and have the bino's in a 2x shorty barlow.
I am going to add another set of holes for native viewing, but how much additional in travel is needed?
with this craddle the tube adjusts for balance and rotation very easily. its a stellafane design. and moves so smoothly and when you stop, it stops. very little vibration when focusing. and with the denver chair, I don't know why it took me so long to build something so simple.

so I just had my newt outside with the binoviewers and no corrector. I was finding the focus by slipping the tube down over the primary until I came to focus while pointing at zenith. I left the focuser tube about mid travel. I had to move the mirror in 4". I'll have to change the current 1.5" secondary to a 2.14" I have laying around.
I want to make it convertible so I'll have to use two different stalks with the different size secondaries attached and a second set of holes in the back of the tube for two different mirror locations.
I'll save that project for next weekend when the wife is away.
Good thing the tube's craddle adjusts for balance and rotation very easily.

Yep, but I do not like T-ring adapter, I am affraid that my Mark V body will fall if I do not screw it well at dark This adapter I have, is universal and simple like using bino as 2" eyepiece.

Hi,
While I admire the versatility of some of the other BVs out there I like the TV's "keep it simple" configuration. The 2X amplifier is simple and very effective but there are other solutions such as Siebert OCAs and a simple Meade 140 Barlow screwed into the nosepiece for variable power. I have never needed to adjust the dipoters on my Denks so I don't miss them on the TV.
Clear Skies,
Steve
