Pages: 1 BKBrown Carpal Tunnel Reged: 08/23/09 Loc: Northern Virginia, USA Io transit, 23 October 2012       #5487841 - 10/24/12 11:27 PM Attachment (56 downloads) Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   The seeing was a rather mediocre "fair" to poor, but shooting at 60 fps with the DBK21AU618 helped mitigate some of the issues and I managed to snag a few decent shots. This image from 03-59-41 EST shows Io just clearing the limb, and there is some nice detail in the scene. Jupiter was too low and the seeing too abominable to let me catch the shadow transit and much of the subsequent action...my best pix start just before Io cleared the limb. Thanks for looking! I was torn between waking up or not on Tuesday morning; as mediocre as the seeing turned out to be it was forecast to be very good; the jet stream was moving at a super slow 25 mph in Maryland and Northern Virginia. That was great but the transparency was poor with humidity reaching 100%. The reason I rolled over was that a 40% cloud cover was forecast. If Io had crossed the planet at midnight or at 6AM I would have made the effort but getting up for a 3-4AM imaging session requires a special effort because sleep during that hour is so hard to lose. It gets harder and harder to pass up imaging opportunities when Jupiter has been so cool...I'm really looking forward to opposition Pete - It is so much easier these days to go out for an impromptu imaging session that I don't mind the sleep part so much, just hope this run of seeing extends into early Decemeber for a change.
