Here are some photo's of my first classic scope a mint 60mm x420mm Carton widefield refractor.I was wondering if anyone can nail the age of this scope down?Iv done some daytime tests the optic's are very sharp and it is well made with a very smooth focuser.Best $40 i ever spent :-)

Can't tell you any info about your Carton but Sheldon probably would be the best bet. Maybe he will chime in with some info? Gorgeous little scope by the way! Enjoy it.

I am going to mount it on a Celestron goto mount i am getting with my new scope and need to build a custom dovetail to mate it with the mount, i already have a plan :-).I wanna shoot the Moon with my Starshoot 4 and see what kinda stacked photo's i can pull out of this little guy.

My recollection is these were mid 1980s, made for Halley's comet. Orion sold a version in black. The one or two I've seen were very nice scopes, way better optically than the little Cometron and Tasco 60mm f5s.

Michael,
It is a solid little sucker all metal weighs about 5lbs great optics and mechanics, focuser is smooth as silk.Did you see it on Cape Breton Kijiji?

Yes, Sydney I believe. The seller was offering it with a tripod at first but I think he sold that or he decided to keep it. I was just interested in the scope and I knew exactly what it was when I saw it. Should make for a nice grab and go telescope for quick looks or traveling. A keeper for sure.

I have a Later made in Japan 60mm 540mm FL scope with a 1.25 focuser. Pretty nice, decent images, but it has a plastic lens cell. Focuser is very nice and the optics are good. It came from Orion back in the early 90's

I have one, mine was sold under the Park brand name, I paid a $100 and only got the 28mm eyepiece but it was in mint condition in the original packing and I felt I got a good deal.
I have used it a fair amount, it's a good scope but at F/7 there is some chromatic aberration visible, splitting Izar, which is easy in my Asahi-Pentax 60mm F/13.3, was barely possible. Currently I mount it on an Quickset "Senior" mount. It's an old photo tripod and handles the scope quite nicely, 200x is possible.
You got a nice scope there...
