ISS flyover
      #5493671 - 10/28/12 08:33 PM

Someone in my local astronomy club told me about www.heavens-above.com

I figured I'd pass this along to any new people that haven't found it yet. I signed up for free, put in my GPS coordinates that I got off google earth and the site will tell me of ISS flyovers and Iridium Flares I can see from my location. I walked out of my warm house into the cold with some binoculars about a minute or two before the site told me I'd see the ISS, and boom, right where they said, right on time. So bright for the first 20 seconds I was sure it was a plane that was in the same area.

Haven't seen an Iridium Flare yet, but I was told not to get my hopes up. I donated a few bucks to the site via paypal just because it was pretty cool.

Hopefully next time I'll have my dob ready as the binoculars were pretty shaky.

Clear skies everyone!

Jim

Actually, they are fairly easy to see and like the ISS they are right on time also. This is a pic of one.

I've been using that site for years to check out ISS and formerly (and sadly) shuttle flights. It's great.
