Still a novice, however I have been attempting to track satellites across the night sky with my 10 inch Dob. This is an endeavor that can be both challenging and rewarding. I would like some ideas or opinions concerning the most ideal equipment to use for viewing Near Earth Objects.
Thank you,
Bill

OK, how about some ideas concerning some not so "ideal" instruments for observing Near Earth Objects. I am thinking a wide field of view would probably be advantageous.
Clear skies to all,
Bill

Most observers who track satellites use a Meade or Celestron goto mount running one of these two popular tracking programs:
Satellite Tracker:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/satellitetracker/
Optic Tracker:
http://www.optictracker.com/Home.html
I've used "Satellite Tracker" in the past with my Meade 12" LX200 and it does a good job. I've been meaning to try "Optic Tracker" ... it looks very impressive!

Thanks for the post skyguy, it gives me someplace to start. Currently I have an Orion Sirius Computerized GoTo mount and wonder if it could be used or modified to be used for tracking satellites. Budget is definitely a consideration so I am trying to do this on a shoestring, as it were. Clear skies, Bill

You can use "Satellite Tracker" with your Sirius mount. However, it takes a lot of configuration to get it to work. Fortunately, it won't cost anything except your time and perseverance!
You can get the how-to instructions from the Yahoo "satellitetracker" group:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/satellitetracker/message/4732
You might have to join this group to see this message.
Good Luck ...
