hi all,
this night later I had a little better seeing. I used a 200/1600mm Dobson from a good friend. I saw different darkness inside the GRS ! The BA was not strong in contrast. I measurded his position at II 170°.
30.10.2012, 22:50 UT, V 178x and 213x without filter
I 305° II 164°
I measured the GRS after sketching again by II 183° !
Bye Christian

Christian, "I saw different darkness inside the GRS !" Outstanding. Yea, I see the same thing, but not sure if it's GRS detail or a contrast effect caused by the brighter band across the GRS.
To me, the GRS has a two toned appearance at lower power. I did manage the entire oval form at 300x, but did not note any internal features at that magnification.
Nice observation, Christian. Bye.

Cristian, outstanding detail renderings here. I very much enjoy the shading you've managed to see in the GRS. You make me wish I had better seeing conditions.

Christian,
Two fine observations. A very good luck at Oval BA and the super storm GRS. You saw a little of the turbulence following the GRS, too.
Your timing of the GRS at 183° matches the latest S&T info (184°).
Super storm Sandy has put a stop to astronomy here. We still have clouds and plenty of turbulence.
