At the last day of October I sketched this beautiful conjunction. The building was my holiday-resort (illuminated by a streetlight), a renovated farm from 1669 (the date was on the roof). What a surprise: in 1669 was Jupiter also next to Aldebaran. This means that the first inhabitans could witness a simular conjunction!
Pastel pencils and soft pastels on black paper. I brightened Jupiter and Aldebaran with software. Some progress could be made on drawing perspective (and windows) and the size of the Moon (5 times to big according the distance between the three objects)

Wow. Just wow. I would hang it hang on my wall. (Otherwise the Van Gogh museum might accidentally hang it on theirs)
Even my wife loves this drawing!

Jef,
I love it. Naked eye sketches can often be as good as and even better than telescope views ---Like this one.

Wow, taking it back, Jef. Must have been a mystical experience sharing an observation (sans the street light) with the ancients. Get a fire going, set out a small Newt (like Galileo) to complete the experience.
Beautiful artwork, too.
But, I am glad scopes have some a long way since Galileo.

Roel, Frank & Norme thanks for the nice words!

To add some more mystic: my holiday location was less than 10 km from Middelburg, the place where the telescope was invented!

I saw the conjunction in the morning of November 2nd, the speherical bodies were less than 2 degrees away. Stunning view! But I had to bike to work, and could not sketch.

You really have to frame that one and hang it on the wall!

By the way Jef, don't even think about changing the perspective and the size of that lovely moon... it would spoil the beauty of it!

I tried to sketch the perspective good (but couldn't). I only discoverd at home that the Moon was way to big.

Jef, you captured this lovely scenery the way your «artistic» mind wanted it to be.
Just look at Van Gogh «Starry Night» http://www.vangoghgallery.com/painting/starryindex.html and you will see that the «right» perspective is a relative matter.
Cheers!

Jeff that's a beautiful piece. The glow on the corner was really executed well and sets a feeling for the piece as a whole. Capitol work withunecpected composition.
