What would be the best mount for this scope? I would like to use it for extended objects as well as moon and planets. I like the idea of the Losmandy G8 because (as I understand it) I could slew by hand and keep tracking, but I like the ease of an alt/az mount. Any suggestions or preferences? Thanks.

Hi,
There are plenty of options for a 4" refractor. Much will depend on what you want to do. The GM8 is definately a fine mount and more than capable for the job.
Kind regards,
Wouter.

The Televue Systems Carton mount. :-)
Or a Vixen GP / GPDX. Both can be had cheaper than a GM8.

You could always go with a half hitch or Nova hitch. I beautiful mount and it can come with the encoders to help you find objects. You do have to manually track it with the knobs but they are very smooth. They are pricey but the workmanship in them is second to none. A life time Alt Az mount. I plan on getting one someday. Two guys in our viewing club have them.

Do you know how the Nova Hitch compares to a DM-4?

No, I have never seen one of those. All I have had experience with is the Nova Hitch. It is great it has a weight on the side that will slide back and forth so you can quickly adjust balance based upon eyepiece. And all you do is sync to one star and it will get you very close to where you need to be. Then you just use the knobs to track as you need to.

I have a G-8 but for short sessions I use a Vixen Porta Mount II with my Televue 102. ADM makes a better bolt on vixen saddle for it for $35.00 (No locking screws)
