It certainly doesn't compare with the real pictures being posted here, but i'll post it anyway as a beginner's snapshot. Taken 11/10 just after midnight, with CPC1100 SCT, Canon 60d, and Powermate 4x. First light on the Powermate.
A little processing/cropping in Canon DPP, but no stacking, as i haven't mastered the stacking software yet. Probably didn't take enough shots anyway to use stacking, i suppose.

Wow, with stacking be prepared for a real shock! You might try movie mode, some have had good success with the Canon DSLR that way. Welcome to the solar system imaging forum!

Thanks! It was interesting comparing this shot with bunyon's image in this forum which was apparently taken at about the same time but with much higher resolution. Those things i only see hints of, i can see in his image what they actually are.

Yeah, this is just about the same time I was imaging.

Very cool pic.
I am totally inspired to try an afocal pic again. I did it before with limited success, but that was before I had a camera with LiveView (ie. it involved a lot of squinting into an undersized viewfinder and taking many many blurry exposures).
