Ayo mounts vs Giro
      #5522383 - 11/16/12 07:57 AM

Looking for a mount for my TV 102. As would like to use it with binoviewers it would be good if you could lock the horizontal axis when changing from bino to mono ep.
Has anyone experience with the Ayo mark II or AyoDigi II. I used the Giro 3 in the past and liked it but it wouldn't lock 100% and the friction is not smoothly to tune.
I like the fact that the Ayo can be easily upgraded with dsc at a later point.

Hi Ebbisham

I own a first generation AYO which works well with my Tak FS-102.
Even at magnifications of 200X it is possible to smoothly track planets.
Furthermore the axes can be fully locked when changing eyepieces.

There are a lot of nice accessories such as encoder option and panhandle available. If I am not wrong there is even a fixture for Bino's:

best regards

The Giro III i use has no problems when locking. My astrobuddy does also owns one, and that one has a locking problem. Never tried to fix that. Don't know if its possible either.

Sometimes i look also to the Ayo mounts. They looks like they are a class better then a giro...but there are also the Discmounts...

Discmounts are unfortunately in another league here in Europe with shipping, taxes, handling fees and all that

By the way, in this thread, some were talking about a plug replacement.

I have been using the AYO Traveller mount with my TV85 and I am completely satisfied with it.

I used both mounts and currently have Ayodigi.

I like both mounts but Ayodigi is superior to Giro in many ways. Giro is suitable for 80mm size sopes without having any balance or locking issues.

Both mounts depends on balancing the scope for smooth operation. They can not be locked completely, they are not designed for that. But Ayodigi is better to lock a heavy telescope.

I have no doubt that for TV102, Ayo Mark II will be a great match.

The AYO Mark II and the AYO traveller can be easily upgraded with digital encoder circles, which is a plus.
I wish I had that option on my older AYO

best regards
Chris

Well, Teton is gone, so Giro support is on the other side of the pond. Have an email addy if anyone needs a contract.
