A friend got a Q7 field model and it has something odd on it. There is an achromat situated on what should be the finder reflex mirror under the tube. Anyone have any idea what its purpose might have been? The scope had been used by a gov't agency for surveillance. It has a Cervit mirror and a serial number: CV-7-81

A simple call to Jim R. at Questar will get you the complete answer when you give him the serial number.

Probably for creating a higher mag finder, if the mirror is still there.
But the best way to find out is to call Jim Reichert at Questar.

Does it look like the 10X finder they put on the Birder model?

Turns out, the achromat was just a crude attachment. It wasn't even level, it was tilted by about 1mm. I have no idea what it was used for. It was only attached with two dabs of glue so some acetone allowed it's removal in about 10 minutes. The mirror underneath was mint.
