Hi All,
Imaged Jupiter this morning, the seeing overhead looked good but down around 30 degrees alt it was a struggle but still have some interesting detail. Have attached 4 742nm IR & 3 RGB data sets. Each RGB is over 11 min's and derotated in WinJUPOS. I note a quite bright spot in both IR & RGB in the NNTB, it is close to the CM in my 14:09 RGB. Trailing this spot but higher on the Northern edge of the NNTZ is another bright spot, slightly larger. The colour of the GRS is certainly darker than the last time I imaged it back on Oct 12th. The region trailing the GRS remains chaotic and there are 4 small white ovals resolved in the STB. The distance between Oval BA and the dark spot trailing also seems similar to the separation in my data from Oct 12th. Have not had many opportunities to image Jup this apparition in anything better than horrendous seeing but I live in hope. Regards Trevor

Looks like you scored well tonight Trevor You collected some good data, I have been watching the outbreak of those bright storms/disturbances this apparition with interest. There seem to be quite a few of them this go 'round. As for the Oval BA, from my images it looks like it has opened up a significant gap with the GRS since 17 October. Good luck with the seeing as we approach opposition!
Clear Skies,
Brian

Thanks Brian, yes, Oval BA is steadily moving away from the GRS now, it really has been a most interesting apparition.
Hi Freddy, so much happening more or less everywhere. I have missed much of the action due to lack of co-operation from the jet. The compilations that John sent out this morning really do underline just how dynamic Jupiter's atmosphere really is, especially so during this apparition.

Good work, Trevor! It's tough to appreciate the quality of these works with the altitude that you have down-under this year, but you've done an excellent job with this.

Wayne

Trevor,
Excellent images for 30-33 degrees! My seeing has been off enough that I have a hard time doing that well even with Jupiter at 70+ degrees!

Amazing images Trevor! The turbulence in the GRS wake shown in your IR images is great!

Thanks very much Glenn, this year and the next Jupiter is as far Nth as it gets for my location but the flip side of that is having Saturn at 70 degrees in 2013 and heading even further Sth right through to 2016. The low alt presents its problems but derotating multiple sets of R, G & B data seems to help considerably.
Thanks very much Paul, for sure the higher alt still doesn't guarantee good seeing but it makes for stunning results when the conditions do come good.
Thanks very much Steve and congrats on your latest Jup data.
Thanks very much Torsten, would have liked to have included the RGB animation but the process of using multiple data sets with derotation creates much larger final RGB image files making the animation of those final RGB's a rather large file.
Thanks very much Glenn, the IR really is the savior for Jup at low alt and really does a good job with the GRS wake which is just so chaotic.

Still an excellent job with what your seeing allowed Trevor! Hoping to see an early Saturn from one of you in the Southern hemi maybe? Hope your seeing cooperates!

Poor to average conditions and 35 degrees altitude...
You've done a great job with these things stacked against you!
Oh well, "you all down under" got a comet recently...and, a solar eclipse.
Thanks for posting, Trevor.

I like the IR animation Trevor, it's quite clear and dramatic in spite of the limitations imposed by seeing and elevation.
