Hi,
Saw Jupiter and a shadow transit this morning. Conditions were only average at first but gradually improved over the session. Of note was a large rift in the North Equatorial Belt and of course the shadow of Europa--I never tire of seeing these events. Other notes are with the sketch here.
As I've often seen in the past, when a Galillean moon (in this case, Europa) is just inside the Jovian limb, it appears spherical rather than a flat disk. Does anyone else notice this phenomenon?

Michael, there is something beautiful about a moon right on the limb. I do notice that phenomenon, something magical.

Michael,
Excellent sketch of Jupiter. The bay on the SEBs border followed by the dark patch is an interesting feature. The rifted area on the NEB is cool. The activity in the NEB along with the EQZ in this apparition sure seems to be ramped up.
Thanks for posting. Dean

Thanks, Dean. The activity in the NEB must be related to the NEB revival. And I'm still fascinated by the appearance of the North Tropical Zone and North Temperate Belt. Very different from last apparition.
