I spent tonight and yesterday browsing the open clusters in Cassiopeia. In total I looked at 16 clusters in this constellation. In numerical order: NGC 129, 136, 225, 381, 436, 457, 559, 637, 654, 663, 659, 1027, 7789, 7790, M52, M103. Some of these were more impressive than others. The ones I liked best were: 225, quite a few bright stars, 381, 457 (ET), 663 (rich cluster, flanked by 654 and 659), 1027 and best of all 7789. Never get enough of 7789, it actually looks like a rose with all the dark lanes in it. While in Cassiopeia I also observed some double stars. eta cas and sigma cas were nice enough, but iota cas was a really nice triple. Outside of Cassiopeia I took a quick peek at M34, M36, M37, M38+ngc1907, the double cluster and the Andromeda galaxy. All in all, two very nice evenings.

Sounds like a great time . But M35 along with NGC2158 are not happy that you missed them .

Sounds like an awesome observing run. NGC7789 is awesome and one of my favorites too.

I think that the stretch of sky running through Cassiopeia, Perseus, and Auriga make autumn viewing what it is. It truly is an open cluster bonanza!

The next time that you're in the neighborhood of M103 you may want to pay the charming little Trumpler 1 a visit.

Trumpler 1 looks good. I'll try for that next time.
